Greetings, Arizona Educators!
My name is Megan and I’m the new Conservation Education Coordinator with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. I’m very excited to announce our Arbor Day Poster Contest for 2022
This year’s theme is “Happy 150th Birthday to Arbor Day!” A milestone year for both Arbor Day and the Arbor Day Foundation, we want to highlight the achievements of this nationally recognized holiday and aim high for the future healthy trees in our communities.
Please click the green button below to view, download or print the contest flyer which includes additional details, rules and instructions. Prizes will be awarded and mailed out to the top three winners in four age group categories!
We hope you’ll take this opportunity to share with your students the importance of trees and their many benefits to our lives. This year is also an opportunity to learn more about the history of Arbor Day, and the lifecycle of trees – which can be a lot longer than many of us think!

Please note that one rule has been added this year: Winners from previous years are not eligible to win first place more than once, but are still encouraged to participate.

Thank you for taking the time to celebrate trees and participate in our poster contest with your classes – we couldn’t do this without you!
I can’t wait to see what each of your students create this year. Please reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or feedback – I look forward to hearing from you!
With gratitude,
Megan

PESI Fundraiser 2021

The 2021 Partners for Equitable Science Instruction (PESI) Fundraiser at Crooked Tooth Brewing Co. was a great success!  We hosted Science Trivia again, which was a big hit.  Our fabulous science themed baskets were very popular as well.  Always so creative, there were 12 baskets in all.  Thanks to our wonderful active PESI supporters, all of the contents of the Science Baskets and Trivia gift cards were generously donated.
We introduced a new fundraiser game of Science Bingo this year.  Bingo participants thoroughly enjoyed the different science themes.  We look forward to having Science Bingo available at our future events.  Also new this year was a PESI Snack Bar.  Yummy treats and tasty nachos made this a profitable and delicious addition to our fundraiser.

Special thanks to the Tucson Herpetological Society (THS) for setting up their reptile display.  There were several different varieties of snakes for guests to observe and touch, and housed in a glass case, was an amazing gila monster.  The gila monster was definitely a huge hit with all the guests.  We are so grateful that THS shared their special reptiles with us.

Finally, our most sincere thanks go to Ben, Julie and the staff at Crooked Tooth Brewing Co. They have hosted and supported the PESI Fundraiser since 2018.  We deeply appreciate their participation and commitment to helping PESI reach our fundraising goals.  We are so grateful that they understand and support our mission of bringing effective and equitable science education, instruction and professional development to Tucson area schools.

We recently added a DONATE button to the PESI website.

If for some reason you missed attending the PESI 2021 fundraiser and wanted to make a donation to support PESI’s mission of equitable science education, instruction and professional development, you can visit pesitucson.org and make a donation today.  Thank you!
