UA Science Opportunity

Hello Fellow Science Educators,

At this moment, the University of Arizona School of Mining and Mineral Resources Education Outreach Program is in the final stages of putting the finishing touches on an awesome professional development opportunity for Arizona teachers this summer. From June 24-27, 2024, the School will be hosting a minerals academy to give teachers firsthand experience integrating mining and minerals-related content into their intended curriculum using resources from around the state.

Arizona–Sonora Desert Museum Accepting Applications for Docent Program

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (ASDM) is now accepting applications for their docent program. Training classes will be month-long pieces separated by two months of targeted, on-grounds practice. New docents will be encouraged to complete all 4 didactic training cycles, but will need to complete a minimum of 2 cycles in order to earn the badge and title of “Docent.” Training will involve at-home, self-guided study in addition to on-grounds lectures and hands-on practice. Our first on-grounds training will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

The training schedule can be found on the ASDM website (https://www.desertmuseum.org/center/edu/docents.php).

Applications are now being accepted through the end of August – depending on the level of interest and response received. Individual interviews will be scheduled with each applicant. Final decisions will be announced by September 13th. The anticipated class size will be below 30 if possible.
