Partners for Equitable Science Instruction (PESI) presented a 3 Dimensions of Science professional development (PD) workshop at TUSD’s Warren Elementary School. The Warren Curriculum Service Provider (CSP), Laurie Elling, reached out to PESI after participating in a TUSD Summer 2021 Science PD workshop where she learned about PESI’s mission to support science education. Warren is developing a STEM Lab at their school and asked for science PD support from PESI. PESI Instructors/Volunteers Barbara Casanova, Becky Cavazos, Caryl Crowell, Peggy Herron, Marleen Lyon and Esther Witt, helped with the 3 Dimensions of Science PD workshop followed by an extended hour of science kit support. PESI also provided Warren with several lists of suggested materials for the STEM Lab, some STEM website links and links to science related bibliographies. The display model of the 3 Dimensions of Science flower graphic used during the presentation was also donated to Warren for their STEM lab. Interested Warren teachers and staff signed up for the PESI group email list and will be receiving PESI Newsletters with news and information about PESI, local science related events and science professional development opportunities. PESI volunteers are looking forward to supporting Warren as they continue development of their new STEM Lab.

Kirstin Bittel, Carrillo Elementary Principal also reached out to us through the PESI website contact page. As a PESI member, Kirsten is very familiar with PESI’s goal of providing equitable science instruction to local Tucson schools. Kirstin requested support from PESI to provide PD workshops based on the Nature of Science and Science Notebooks. PESI has two workshops planned for Carrillo. We are looking forward to meeting the Carrillo teachers and staff and will be inviting them to join the PESI Group as well.
PESI instructors and volunteers are excited about the opportunity to provide science professional development to our local Tucson area schools.
Thank you to one of our newest PESI members, Marcia White. Marcia recently reached out to PESI through the PESI website contact link. Marcia was looking for a good home for her middle school science materials. PESI was happy to help, and met up with Marcia in early September.
Some of her materials have been donated to Anna Costa, a middle school science teacher at Mansfeld Middle Magnet School, TUSD. Anna was very grateful to receive Marcia’s generous donation.
The following materials donated by Marcia are still available!
